The most important pieces of equipment you need for doing yoga are your body and your mind.
Rodney Yee, Yoga: The Poetry of the Body

You might have heard a lot—or a little—about yoga, but unless you try it yourself you can never fully know or understand its benefits. Yoga combines movement and poses with breath control and meditation techniques. What makes yoga unique is its ability to help us connect the movement and fluctuations of the mind to the rhythm of our breath. By connecting the mind, body, and breath we can more easily direct our attention inward, which can steady our senses, offer relief to physical and emotional stress, and help us live more fully in the moment.

While much of yoga involves stretching, the practices means much more. It is about creating balance in the body by developing both strength and flexibility. Students achieve this through a variety of poses, each of which offers a specific physical benefit. What makes yoga so special and meaningful for many people is its evolving nature. Just as the poses change, you change as well in strength, endurance, and outlook.

Many people who practice yoga discover a multitude of psychological benefits. With regular practice, people may experience decreased anxiety and depression, a higher degree of self-acceptance, increased and improved memory and other aspects of wellbeing. In addition, people report experiencing many biochemical benefits such as yoga's ability to increase HDL cholesterol and lower LDL cholesterol. In addition, yoga increases flexibility, massages all of the body's organs, tones muscles, and increases lubrication to joints, ligaments and tendons. The physiological benefits of yoga are enormous and range from improving eye-hand coordination to increasing endurance and energy levels.

At Generations Yoga, we have classes for everyone at every level. Our diverse mix of classes makes it easy for to develop a yoga practice that fits your needs and lifestyle. The more classes you try, the more you'll know about the many ways that yoga can help improve your life.
