I
started practicing yoga 7 years
ago to restore balance in my
physical body (as a runner)
and my emotional body (due
to starting a challenging new
job). Soon after, I had the
transformative experience of my 200 level teaching certification
from the Temple of Kriya Yoga in Chicago. Yoga has become integral
to my life, supporting me as a healer, teacher, mother, spouse,
and friend, and allowing me the space to be truly present in each
of these roles.
As
an instructor, I approach yoga in a therapeutic way due to my background
as a physical therapist. I have combined my knowledge
of therapy and continuing
education with my experience of yoga to offer classes for pre and
postpartum women, as well as gentle yoga for individuals seeking
a “safe” yoga
experience.
My
experience as a mother and
a therapist has inspired my
sequence of poses that address
bodily changes that occur
during and after pregnancy (such as posture, pelvic floor and core
weakness), as well as prepare the body for labor and delivery.
You will experience lengthening of muscles commonly shortened during
pregnancy (such as back ,chest and hips), and postures that address
stability of the spine and pelvis, which may help ease upper and
lower back pain, hip and pelvic pain. We will soften into breathing
and relaxation designed to ease labor as well as the transition
to motherhood. My classes also provide a fun way to connect to
your baby before and after birth!
Yoga
truly is for everyone, and it is my mission as an instructor to
safely guide you through a practice that will allow the opportunity
to fully experience your breath and body. In my classes, I intend
to provide safe adjustments
and also help to cultivate body awareness in a strong, yet gentle
sequence. I believe that you are your own best teacher, and I hope
to enable you to listen to your own body and voice, and feel confident
in your own practice.
I
believe that living yoga is
the path to truth and happiness. I look forward to walking this
path with you!
