Yoga
has always been a part of my psyche
even before I stepped foot on a mat.
When I was sixteen years old I read You Can Heal Your Life by Louise
Hay and the ideas and philosophies in her book changed my life. I
became extremely interested in alternative forms of healing, spirituality,
personal growth and development, and the way that our thoughts affect
our life.
Over
the past 3 years I have been counseling kids in the inner city and
I found that I would naturally teach them meditation, visualization,
and yoga to help them cope with their stress, anxiety, anger, and
sadness. I asked some studios for donations of mats and after only
1 or 2 times on a yoga mat the kids would come to therapy and ask
just to sit on the mat while they spoke. It was as if being on the
mat itself was therapeutic in and of itself. The more yoga they asked
for, the more I gave them and now. Seeing the incredible transformation
that yoga has had on these kids has prompted me to be involved in
bringing yoga to children in other settings and populations.
My
years of practicing yoga and training
with many well respected teachers,
as well as my many years as a massage therapist allowed me the ability
to take my passion and knowledge into the school setting. Witnessing
the transformation of kids who are inspired and empowered through
their practice of yoga is my greatest blessing. Seeing them find
their inner strength, voice, and confidence inspires me on a daily
basis.
Growing
up in Wilmette myself, I feel so incredibly
blessed to be back in my home community and be able to share my passion,
experience, and knowledge with the families at Generations Yoga.
I
look forward to meeting and working
with you all.
May
peace be with you.
