I began practicing yoga in 2004 for purely physical reasons and found an invigorating power yoga class that more than met those needs. However, it wasn't long before I realized how much more yoga offers. This began my journey into the other limbs of yoga including: pranayama (breath control), pratyhara (turning one's senses inward) and dharana (a single-pointed mind). As my practice developed, I found myself preaching the benefits of yoga to all who would listen. By learning how the breath connects the body to the mind, and how it then becomes the vehicle that takes us toward self-realization, I have learned how to connect to my true self. My goal is to help others on their own journey toward finding their inner Divinity.
I have completed Moksha Yoga Center's 2009 teacher training program, which has deepened my knowledge and love of yoga under the guidance of Daren Friesen. I have also studied under master teachers Aadil Palkhivala, Elesa Commerce, and have studied anatomy with Tias Little. I am inspired and influenced by the teachings of Heather Martello and her beautiful, flowing vinyasa sequencing and Kim Wilcox's use of language to ensure proper alignment.
My classes combine the attention to alignment with a flowing, upbeat and fun style. I truly believe that the breath is the key to deepening a practice, so breathwork and attention to the breath is also a large focus in my classes.
I hope to share the possibilities that a yoga practice can open in others as graciously as my teachers have shared with me.
