YOGA Therapeutics at Generations Yoga
Generations Yoga is excited to initiate a comprehensive yoga therapy program to serve the needs of the community. Both group classes and individual sessions are available lead by certified professional yoga therapists.
What is Yoga Therapy?
The ancient tradition of yoga comprises a wide range of mind/body practices, from postural and breathing exercises to deep relaxation and meditation. Yoga therapy tailors these to the health needs of the individual. It helps to promote all-round positive health, as well as assisting particular medical conditions. Yoga therapy can be used as a complement to medical treatment of chronic and acute physical and/or mental conditions.
Who is a Yoga Therapist?
Yoga Therapists are yoga teachers who have additional training in therapeutic applications of yoga. They may specialize in teaching specific groups like seniors, pregnant women or people with cancer. They may work one on one with private clients and have other areas of training and expertise which they integrate into their practice such as health care, massage therapy, energy healing, counseling, or ayurveda.

Yoga and Scoliosis Workshop with Sarah Hillenbrand
Level 1 | November 13th : Discover how scoliosis affects your entire body, not just your back. From head to feet we will map how your body twists and turns. With this knowledge you can lengthen your spine, untwist the rotated sections, and draw the curvatures closer to your midline. Learn how scoliosis loads your muscles asymmetrically and how to adapt yoga poses to awaken, lengthen and strengthen the weak and underused muscles. Practice directing your breath in a similar way, awakening the power in your breathing muscles to help correct your scoliosis.
Level 2 | November 12th :Take your awareness to the next level. Suitable for those practitioners comfortable with the Level 1 workshop concepts and body awareness. In this workshop we will experiment with more subtle alignment in the foundation (pelvis, feet and hands). Level 2 pranayama will work on strengthening the diaphragm and educating the abdominals. Standing balancing poses, arm balances and inversions will be explored as therapeutic poses for scoliosis. We will also consider how Ayurvedic concepts and nutrition can inform our approach to scoliosis. Pre-requisite is attendance at previous Level 1 workshop, privates or group scoliosis classes with Sarah Hillenbrand. Most suitable for those with at least one year alignment-based yoga experience.
SUITABLE FOR ALL LEVELS, including those students new to yoga as well as more advanced practiioners. Each student will leave with a map of his/her curves, images to help visualize curve patterns, and a home practice sequence.
